Sustainable Cities Initiative has released research findings that examine transportation measures in Oregon, California and Washington from 2005-2015 analyzing the language and content that create successful ballot initiatives. The project explores how to increase transportation spending in cities over 100,000 people. It also addresses the various types of sustainable transportation options available to cities. This research will explain how effective ballot initiatives were worded, marketed and communicated.
This Framing Livability research has pointed to the fact that the ballot box appears to be a useful resources in pursuing more livable communities, especially when measures focus on multimodal, sustainable transportation. SCI Co-Director Nico Larco explains that he believes "this research is a large step in the right direction towards getting more livability-focused ballot initiatives passed, and moving our cities towards more sustainable and livable development.”
