City of Gladstone
The City of Gladstone is partnering with SCYP to help strengthen its downtown identity, celebrate local heritage, and enhance visitor experiences. To support these goals, SCYP will match resources from existing university courses to high priority projects such as heritage-based tourism, façade improvement, public outreach and engagement, cohesive wayfinding, and website integration. Together, these efforts will help elevate Gladstone’s visibility, celebrate its history, and foster a vibrant, connected community.
“Partnering with the Sustainable City Year Program is an incredible opportunity for Gladstone. This collaboration helps us strengthen our connection and engagement, celebrate our heritage, and create a more welcoming experience for residents and visitors alike. It’s a smart investment in our identity, our economy, and our long-term vitality.”
– Michael Milch, Mayor of Gladstone

This SCYP and City of Gladstone partnership is possible in part due to support from U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, as well as former Congressman Peter DeFazio, who secured federal funding for SCYP through Congressionally Directed Spending. With additional funding from the partner, the partnership will allow UO students and faculty to study and make recommendations on city-identified projects and issues.
