Just Published - Rethinking Streets for Bikes

Rethinking Streets for Bikes, the much-anticipated follow up to Rethinking Streets, is now available for free download! The visual design guide presents case studies from across the U.S. that make it easier for planners and policymakers to design streets that prioritize cyclists.

Rethinking Streets for Bikes seeks to make it easier for cities to design complete streets that accommodate efficient, sustainable, everyday forms of micromobility like bicycles. By relying on case studies rather than hypothetical design frameworks, the authors were able to provide real examples of proven street redesigns that local officials and planners can look to for inspiration in their own communities. The case studies that made it into the guide were selected specifically to showcase the best examples of streets designed to serve ordinary cyclists and keep them safe.

SCI Co-Director Marc Schlossberg was one of the principal investigators for the book along with UO colleague John Rowell, Roger Lindgren of the Oregon Institute of Technology, and Dave Amos of UC Berkeley. The project was made possible and published by the National Institute for Transportation and Communities (NITC).
