Research

SCI is now working with the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design (CAUPD) and Suzhou Urban Planning and Design Ltd. to develop joint applied research opportunities that can proactively inform sustainability approaches in China, evaluate current Chinese practice, and utilize global best practices in informing our mutual sustainability interests.

Four potential topics have been identified:

  • summary of urban containment policies in the U.S. with an emphasis on Oregon’s Urban Growth Boundaries;
  • water-related urban design and management issues;
  • open space accessibility assessment for the City of Suzhou; and
  • a literature review of urban walkability design.

Potential faculty members to lead or participate in these projects include: Marc Schlossberg, Nico Larco, Yizhao Yang, Deni Ruggeri, Bob Parker, Rich Margerum, Vicki Elmer, and Kelly Clifton.
